Kamakshi
Maa is my spiritual name.
One of it’s meanings is: She who has eyes of Love
or Desire, and with me, for as long as I can
remember, those eyes of Love and Desire have been
fixed on ONE THING and that is the Desire for
Liberation—Self Realization—Union with God—The
Universe—The Truth or with LOVE. By whatever name
you choose to call “IT”, the current of my Life
draws me, by that Love, more deeply into the
Awareness of That Union with every breath that I
take, through my own unique experiment and
experience of LIFE
Lately I have been thinking of myself as a Modern Day, Western Eclectic Yogini. We here in the west sometimes have to search far and wide—trying this and trying that, separating the wheat from the chaff, seeking someone—ANYONE who might share with us the deepest secrets of Life, so that we too can end our own seeking and suffering, and to attain that Eternal Sat-Cit-Ananda—Existence, Consciousness and Bliss—that Peace and Happiness which passes understanding and is described by all of the saints and sages from time immemorial.
My purpose for being here on this website is to support your progress in your own persona and unique, LIVING Sadhana— Sharing with you some of the my experience, useful tools and the most profound practices that have been revealed to me along the way.
As a Modern day, Western Eclectic Yogini I am the mother of four grown, children with 6 beautiful grandchildren. The conscious seeking began at age 27 (although in retrospect I can see it was even there as a child). But, by that time I was already married with two of the children, so I spent those early years, in the silent hours of the night, when everyone in the household was asleep, being driven by that Desire to know God, I endlessly sought out and read whatever information I could find—practicing Swadhyaya or study of the sacred texts. Not a simple process. Oh! What I would have given for Google in those days. So, my very Life became my Sadhana—A Sadhana ‘off the mat’.
My first introduction to Yoga was to Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, where I realized a deep Love of both Sikh and Sanskrit Mantra, which began with that practice, over 30 years ago.
In 1994 I was initiated into The Cobra Breath by Sunyata Saraswati (co-author of The Jewel in the Lotus).
My interest and study of both link to bookstore Neo-Tantra and Classical Tantra began back in the mid 80’s when I found my first book on Tantra, Ecstasy Through Tanta by Dr. Jonn Mumford (Swami Anandakapila Saraswati, who was one of the fist teachers to introduce Tantra to a western audience. To continue reconciliation between my sexuality and spirituality I read and worked with the practices of all the ‘mainstream’ Neo-Tantric teachers that had became more visible during the late 80’s and into the 90’s. At that time Classical Tantra teachings were difficult for a suburban housewife-yogini to find. During that time I also discovered and practiced, mostly on my own, the teachings on Taoist Sexual Yoga as taught by Mantak Chia. Mantak Chia teaches all aspects of Taoist Yoga through what has come to be known as: The Universal Healing Tao System.
In 2003 I was initiated into Kriya Yoga by Shibendu Lahiri the great-grandson of the famous house holder Yogi, Lahiri Mahasaya (1828-1895) of the Yogananda lineage.
Also in 2003, by Pure Grace, I met Yogacharya Swami Ajanananda Saraswati from whom I have received personal one-to-one instruction over the last four years, on two separate visits to Australia. During those visits I was initiated into the Tantric Meditation Practices, that are taught on his newly released, 7-CD audio series: The Inner Freeway: Spiritual Fusion. and subsequently was given SwamiJi blessing to, teach these powerful practices.
In 2007-2008 I completed a teacher training certification program in Amrit Method Yoga Nidra, from the Amrit Yoga Institute. in Salt Springs Florida.
I’m like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to the Sacred Scriptures. Beautiful books like, The Upanishads and the Scriptures of Non-dual Kashmir Shivism. The Shiva Sutras, Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and The Vijnanabhairava—the list goes on and on. You can find some of my favorite suggested reading at my bookstore. These beautiful teachings are a large part of my own personal practice and lifestyle, which cultivats Wholeness and a Life of Self Study.
This life long seeking and powerful Desire to Know God, ultimately lead to a deep personal surrender which, by Grace, led me to the panicle of Yoga -- Self Enquiry and Enlightenment Intensives 'resulting' in, Anubhava: Direct Experience of Reality, Union With God, Union with Love, Union with ALL THAT IS or by what ever name you choose to call it—Self Realization and Ishwara Pranidhana: Constantly living with the Awareness of the Divine Presence that ‘We’ Are and a Surrendered Life to God's Will.
Since 2003 I have been involved in the support of and participation in Enlightenment Intensives which has proven to be the culminating and most powerful practice in my Life. The Enlightenment Intensive format, with elements of a Zen Sashin, in a dyad format, creates and holds a powerful container for Self Enquiry and Enlightenment. In this 3 1/2 - 6 day residential retreat, an environment is cultivated in which participants may experience Ahanabhava -- DIRECT EXPERIENCE, also known as, Enlightenment or Self Realization.
